John Lennon

John Lennon
Woman Is The Nigger Of The World
"Woman is the nigger of the world
Yes she is, think about it
Woman is the nigger of the world
Think about it, do something about it"
"Woman is the nigger of the world" is a song that has been written by John Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono.
Most radio stations in the US declined to play the record due to its use of the offensive racial word "nigger". The song was perceived as an inappropriate comparison of women's rights to the oppression of African-Americans song. (The phrase was coined by Yoko Ono during an interview for Nova magazine and was even put on the cover!) The song is supposed to describe women's subservience to men, but there is maybe an improper choice of words.
John Lennon and Yoko Ono probably had no intention to offend the African-American community. If looking at the lyrics from Lennon's perspective, the song makes sense: "We insult her (woman) everyday on TV and wonder why she has no guts or confidence. When she's young we kill her will to be free."
